Mike Clabby is a songwriter and musician based in Evanston IL. He writes folk and roots based songs that tell stories and attempt to engage the listener by employing humor, amusing turns of phrase and catchy rhymes.

His influences include John Prine, Loudon Wainwright III, Todd Snider, Hayes Carll, and Steve Poltz. His lyrics have been recognized by American Songwriter magazine in their annual lyric writing competition.

Mike performs in the Chicago area and wherever else the wind blows him.

As host of Tell You What! The Podcast, Mike interviews musicians about songwriting and the creative process. He has conducted in depth conversations with over 60 Americana, folk, roots, bluegrass, and indie rock artists from around the globe.  

Mike is the co-host of the open mic at Grandpa’s Place in Glenview, IL; musicians of all stripes are welcomed every Tuesday night to play songs and to enjoy the musical community that has gathered there for the last 8 years.

  He also writes a somewhat quarterly music themed newsletter, “hey how’s it goin’?”, that offers recommendations on music, music related books and movies, and essays on creativity and life.  Subscriptions are free, and worth every penny.

  Michael and his wife Susan have raised five interesting children; one of whom, Lucy Clabby, is a musician/songwriter with the Pittsburgh based Americana band Buffalo Rose.  

  Mike believes in the power of music and tries to appreciate the hilariously endless mystery that is the universe.
